<description>There is a segment of thought that considers the soul, our conscious state of being, as having the capacity to exist outside of our mortal shells. This capacity is to be celebrated, but it has led some to contemplate notions of immortality in a digital sense. This line of thought is found in various popular works of fiction, film, television and other forms of media. While I do personally believe in life after death–in heaven and hell, I would argue that a man-made, substitution of such existence is not within the scope of our intended design and will lead, quite simply, to a vast, inexplorable nothingness. A nonexistence.

<description>Love and War. Past and Present. These forces encapsulate the beautiful city of 1942's Casablanca. The chief narrative conflict is mentioned through the use of graphic symbols and one of the more historic moments from the film. This promo taps into the legacy and nostalgia of the film with careful color selection, elegant typography and art deco references to complete its art direction. There's even a tribute to the ending scene on the logo lockup.

<description>In the effort to outrun the inefficiency of our past, the new Ferrari 599 Hybrid combines the beauty, performance and efficiency of nature into a living, breathing machine. With the strength and speed to elude the most deadly of predators, Ferrari has outdone itself in both its design and sustainability.

		<description>Concept:
A roar rips through lungs of steel in a desolate world on the brink. He rides.

Fulmer is a motorcycle accessories company seeking to elevate brand awareness. To accomplish this we created a cinematic teaser trailer targeting riders who see their motorcycles as an extension of themselves. The teaser depicts a mysterious figure emerging from a shrouded locale and mounting his motorcycle as if he were answering a call to arms. By masking the identity of the rider, we introduce the audience to Fulmer and establish the brand attitude while leaving them wanting more. This teaser can be expanded to a series of viral marketing videos.

Credits:
Directed, Designed and Animated by Eric Dies and Kalin Fields.
Sound Design by Blake Johnson.

Awards:
First Place Best 3D Compositing at CoMotion 2012

Process:
The following still and moving images are provided to illustrate the process, production and development of the Nightcall project.

Style Frames:
During the design phase, we tried an innovative process of "group designing." Collaboratively, Kalin and I took stabs at ideas for shots by first trying things separately. Once completed, we came together and combined what we thought worked best within certain shots from each design. This was a dynamic process, however, and at times we instead took on specific roles within the frames to speed up the process.

&#60;img src="http://payload43.cargocollective.com/1/1/62272/3170567/board_01a_969.jpg" width="969" height="545" width_o="1280" height_o="720" src_o="http://payload43.cargocollective.com/1/1/62272/3170567/board_01a_o.jpg" data-mid="16217490"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload43.cargocollective.com/1/1/62272/3170567/board_03b_969.jpg" width="969" height="545" width_o="1280" height_o="720" src_o="http://payload43.cargocollective.com/1/1/62272/3170567/board_03b_o.jpg" data-mid="16217499"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload43.cargocollective.com/1/1/62272/3170567/board_01b_969.jpg" width="969" height="545" width_o="1280" height_o="720" src_o="http://payload43.cargocollective.com/1/1/62272/3170567/board_01b_o.jpg" data-mid="16217506"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

On Set Stills:
While having plenty of lights and production gear, we were limited in what we could use for our green screen shoot. Without any smooth cyc-walls to streamline production, we had to deal with folds in the cloth and limited studio space, but in the end, after a little rotoscoping and after effects magic, the keys cleaned up rather nicely.

Animatic:
Shortly after an 8 hour brainstorming session, we grabbed a camera, shot some quick footage and made some sketches to illustrate the concept of the piece. We then edited everything together to determine the mood, pacing and feel.

Motion Test:
This is a quick motion test from early on in the post-production process. We explored different directions of creating the background street and found an innovative solution inspired by the Main Titles for Limitless.

<description>Milkbone is the perfect treat for the dog that completes you, and when we reflect on our furry little friends, it's no wonder we want to give them the very best. There's something unexplainable about the bond we share with our animals, and it's worth discussion! This piece uses the relationship between a curious pet and his owner's belongings to communicate the feeling of wholeness and contentment we share while knowing our best friends are just waiting for us to come home.

Pulling influences from "knolling," storytelling and suggestion, the goal of this commercial spot is to position Milkbone as the perfect solution to keep our pet-relationships orderly and strong!

<description>In the near distant future, patriotism, passion and a desire for change have been eclipsed by a governing force. The world has been stripped away, and resistance is on the rise.

<description>Hephaestus, an upcoming animated short film, needed a title sequence for its approaching debut. As a result this project was born. Elaborating upon the end of the film, this main on end illustrates the main character's reflective memory within a world of "digitized" debris. This occurs directly after the character emerges from a cloud of smoke as he makes his stand to save the life of an innocent he loves.
